The kingsguard are mainly made up of bastards, criminals and shamed nobles. It is said that a few tours in the band will give bastards a closer family, criminals a second chance, and nobles can regain their lost honour. As with such a diverse group, the inter-group relations can get tense. Jefferson for instance belongs to two classes, that being a bastard and a criminal.

Until today and the loss of his friend, Jefferson had been on track to become somewhat tolerable.
